Cardinal Health Surgical Clipper Faster and Safer

DUBLIN, Ohio, Oct. 15, 2013 — The Cardinal Health Surgical Clipper, which promotes perioperative safety combined with speed and simplicity, is now available.

“Technology-enabled, evidence-based medicine can help improve quality, ensure safety and increase efficiencies,” said Shaden Marzouk, MD, vice president of Clinical Affairs at Cardinal Health, “and the Cardinal Health Surgical Clipper enables effective preoperative hair removal that could help minimize skin abrasions and the potentially resultant surgical site infections. The clipper’s ‘touch-free’ technology could also help minimize sharps exposure.”

The clipper’s patent-pending design includes a touch-free, attach-and-release technology that prevents staff exposure to sharp blades. The two-plane blade design, with a moving blade located away from the patient’s skin, reduces the potential for nicks, scrapes and other damage that can lead to surgical site infections.

A study performed at an independent test lab concluded that the Cardinal Health Standard Prep Blade is safer than competitive general purpose blades. Specifically, in tests measuring damage to the skin caused by a clipper blade, including a cut, nick or scrape, the Cardinal Health safety incident rate was three times lower than the leading competitor.

The Cardinal Health Surgical Clipper was also designed to enhance speed. The disposable, “no-touch” Standard Prep Blade and Specialty Blade provide a large cutting plane with cutting widths of 1.2 inches and 1.4 inches, respectively. The optimized blade width allows for fewer passes and a faster clip time, as demonstrated in a third-party independent clinical study.
